It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Hazel Donaldson, a cherished Board Member of the Heritage Waters Coalition and a fearless defender of the Gila region in southwestern New Mexico.

Hazel was more than an advocate — she was a force of nature. For decades, she stood on the front lines to protect the Gila River and its surrounding communities from government overreach, driven by her deep love for the land and the people who call it home. Her leadership, courage, and unwavering voice were foundational to the mission of the Heritage Waters Coalition: to preserve the integrity of our waters, our rights, and our way of life.

Hazel was a pillar in her community, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who had the honor to know and work alongside her.
